Old stone bee
hives. This is the back of the hives. The swarms were put
in the back and closed in with a stone. A small entrance is at the front of
each hive. Honey crops were small - about 0.5 kg and the bees frequently
swarmed as the hives were small. |

A Cottage Hive. These hives had double
walls on two sides of the hive only. I made this one and three others for a
woodworking project. All the timber was from old doors.

The hives have double walls and are difficult to move and involve a lot of
work. They also need a lot of maintainance. The hives use British Standard
frames with 10 in each brood box.
